i was in central park today, sleeping/reading and upon my walk home remembered one of my most memorable moments in nyc...
it was two summers ago. lynn and i went to see shakespeare in the park at the delacorte theatre. the show: romeo + juliet with lauren ambrose, camryn manheim, oscar isaac.
in the scene where juliet is discovered by the nurse after taking the sleeping drugs, a MONSOON ripped open the sky! it was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
the entire audience went into a frenzy, people were scrambling, laughing, screaming, it was terrible fun.
lynn and i didn't know what to do...stay? is the show keeping on? go? what if the rain stops and they commence again?
so we stayed put. soon, a voice over the intercom bellowed something like: "tonight's performance of romeo + juliet will not reconvene. however, oskar eustis has announced the party at belvedere castle will not be cancelled!"
we exchanged excited looks.
"PARTY?"
we happened to attend the evening of the show's benefit performance, which included the benefit PARTY!
so we climbed the cobblestone staircase to belvedere castle, nervously glancing at security guards whom we thought would turn us away every few paces we took.
soon we reached the landing and took in a festive sight: tables of beautiful catering and a mass of slippery, yet enthusiastic people. and did i mention it never stopped pouring?
we spent the entire evening dancing to music in the downfall, devouring yummy food, drinking like rockstars and partying with liev schreiber and the stars of the show.
we didn't get to see the end of the play. but no big surprises there.
